It has been 2 months since I walked this mile of beach.
Report Details
It has been 2 months since I walked this mile of beach. In the meantime, there have been two sets of king tides, one tsunami warning and many storms. At the end of the rip rap, there is considerable erosion of foredunes extending for about 1/3 mile. Oddly I saw no birds. There is evidence of oil on the beach below Neskowin Crest.

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 6.1 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 45. Number of dogs: 14. Walking or running: 37. Sitting: 8.
Driftline Content
Wood pieces, Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea).
Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune. For about 1/3 mile north of end of rip rap, noticeable erosion of foredunes

The north 1/2 mile of 254 was recently eroded to the point that I did not recognize it.

One cannot help but notice the 120+ large clumps on entangled kelp all along mile 254.

The north half mile of 254 (after the end of the rip rap )has experienced serious erosion.

There is a marked difference between the 1/4 mile of rip rapped beach with its gentle slope and 2' shelf of sand blown against the rocks AND the north 3/4 mile where the dunes are receeding and are eroding in height.

It has been two months since my last observation and, of course, there have been many storms, a great deal of rain and high winds in that time.

One dead sea lion which I understand is all too common at this time on the Oregon Coast.

This is my first observation for mile 254.
