First beach visit after the major storm surges. No dead animals. Documented movement of the Giant stump, 2014 to the present. This last storm broke it apart (deep crack up the middle) and moved it another .25 mile, almost to Ona Beach entrance. Beach was scrubbed off.read more

Besides the pyrosomes, a seal carcass appears to be encased in fishing gear. Jim Rice and Ryan Parker were contacted. This is between beach entrance marker 63 and 62B. This information was sent to me by Bonnie S. who walks this beach frequently.read more

Results of storm was less disturbance than I expected. Sand buried more of the beach, off-loaded considerable number of logs to some place else, created a few new temporary streams. Found dead sea lion, reported it to parks services.read more

Beach is full of sand, no gravel or much of any drift wood. High-tide line packed with Velella velella. Few birds around. Nesting sites in the cliffs looked used but didn't see any birds active in that area.

Stopped by to see what the big storm had done: washed up a dead cormorant, added more erosion to existing area below untended house (house has been featured for some years on this mile report), busted-up log which had been parked behind the large tree root, uncovered the rock shelves.

Quiet day, no "gravel" at all on the beach. Most of the debris from spring storms is gone, including the large drifting tree stump. Layers of sand cover most of the exposed rocks along the mid-tide line. Tide line was full of feathers and "dots" of jelly fish.

Obvious increase in traffic on the beach. All "gravel" areas are under the sand. Only difference was the amount of septic seepage into the sand making it truly "mucky" to walk over.

The beach was mostly clean; there were a few bits of crumpled styrofoam near the end of the mile, and a few picnic litter items. No evidence of tsunami debris.People are burning the large tree stump that has been slowly moving north along the beach for over a decade.
