Report Details

The northern segment was fairly uneventful at 6 a.m. on a cloudy, windless morning around 60 degrees. Gulls, a scattering of sanderlings and scads of small sand-hopping insects were out and about. Kelp, some driftwood, shell fragments and gravel marked the tide lines. No people, litter or dead critters here. The southern segment was a different matter. Three walkers and one photographer comprised the people count. Two vehicles in the lot. Crows, gulls and black oyster catchers were the other live entities. On the dead side were 4 birds: two common murres and two unknowns. The tides have shifted the previously noted dead harbor seal several yards south. Again, kelp, some driftwood, and small stones marked the tide line. Also evident there were tiny white crab-like things. No litter here either. About a half-dozen structures of driftwood have sprung up on this stretch.
