Report Details

From the Coquille River lighthouse north on another gloriously clear morning, one other person with 2 dogs beat us to the beach. Two women, each with dogs, were coming onto the beach as we were leaving. Hundreds of gulls rested on the sand just north of the jetty, a few Sanderlings flitted about, and the pelicans were out in force fishing beyond the breakers or flying up the river. We watched scores of them from this side of the jetty. One dead seabird, possibly a grebe, without bands was on the high-tide line. Lots of small rocks, shell fragments, a few tangles of kelp, some sea grass lay along the tide line.
