Mile 197 Report
April 12, 2021
A cloudless, breezy morning on the mile.
Report Details
A cloudless, breezy morning on the mile. Most folks in the campground & nbsp were still having breakfast, but there were a few people on the beach: 18 adults, 6 children, and 6 dogs, four of them leashed. A fisherman was scouting the surf for a good place to cast, and one adult was flying a kite. The bluffs were unusually free of people's initials and artwork. The sand was as low as I've ever seen it -- rock slabs were showing at the base of the bluffs, a novelty for me. I'm not good at estimating, but I'd guess that in places the top of the bluffs is 20 or 25 feet high. About 2/3rds of the way south on the mile, what looked like a newly graveled vehicle access to the beach had been truncated by the waves.
Conditions
Temperature: 55 F. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light.
Human Activities
Number of people: 24. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 22. Fishing: 1. Other Activities: Kite flying.
Notable Wildlife
Only a few gulls

Natural Changes
Much sand has come off the beach. Rock slabs were visible at the foot of the bluffs, first time I've seen them in several years of walking the mile.
