Mile 197 - San Marine, Tillicum Beach, Tillicum Beach CG - March 31, 2017

Report Details

A sunny, mild day on the beach with only a few people in sight at the start of my walk. When I returned, many more had materialized in the vicinity of the campground. (The campground looked to be about two-thirds full.) The cliff-carvers have taken advantage of what was a blank slate a couple of months back. The back of the beach was strewn with lots of medium-size driftwood all the way along. Bird life consisted of only a few gulls. Juvenile Vellella vellella had washed up in large, odorous numbers; there were also some scattered unidentified white objects about the diameter of a cigarette filter and a little longer. Litter was at a minimum though not entirely absent. Most notable was a very large chunk of recently fallen bluff about a quarter mile south of the campground.

Driftline Content

Small rocks. Juvenile Vellella vellella, enough to be pretty smelly, along the driftline. Unidentified white pellets, same diameter as cigarette filters and just a little longer.
