Mile 197 - San Marine, Tillicum Beach, Tillicum Beach CG - November 18, 2017

Report Details

A calm, mild late afternoon on a beach largely clear of debris. There were large tangles of bull kelp in the driftline. About 30 people, including 8 or so children, were enjoying the beach. There were maybe 5 dogs. South of the riprap at the campground, the big chunks of bluff that came down last winter are still being washed away; so far, no major new pieces have fallen. The bluff continues to look much taller than it did before last winter, when the storms took so much sand off the beach. I'm estimating it's 15 feet high.

Concerns

Climbing bluffs/seastacks

Apparent violations: A boy 6 or 7 years old had climbed partway up the bluff and was digging a good-size hole into the face with a small shovel. I approached him and his parents, explained that he was damaging an already fragile feature of the beach, and asked that he stop, which he did..
