Report Details

A sunny day with little wind and low tide.  People were out mostly walking the beach.  Found one beached bird south of Henderson Creek.  Not much broken sheels/crab moltings/etc.  No further erosion.

Conditions

Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 40. Number of dogs: 13. Walking or running: 38. Playing in sand: 2. We disturbed 2 shorebirds while walking in the drift line. They were in the vegetation. It was a pleasant sunny day so people/families were out and with dogs. Two helicopters & 2 planes flew over -- there is the nearby airport. Also 2 small boats in the water.

Concerns

Apparent violations: Tire tracks but could be from SB Park ranger earlier checking the beach. There were also mountain bike tracks..

Disturbances: Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 1.

Notable Wildlife

None observed except for a couple gulls and a couple small shorebirds on land. We found a "blob" which could be a jellyfish or something disposed of by an animal. See photo.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 1. Photos will be sent to COASST Beached Birds since the plastic observed on the decomposed bird may have been from tagging the bird. The bird was 12" long with black on its upper white upper pointed wings/ The bill was straight. We can't identify the bird.

Driftline Content

The drfitline was quite clean except for the abundant trees/trunks/pieces. Very little litter this time.

Man-made Modifications

The house which was under construction in June has been finished. We hadn't noticed a house behind it before.

Actions & Comments

We will send photos of the beached bird to COASST Beached Birds for identification.
