Mile 213 Report
October 16, 2015
Foggy day with very little wind from the SW.
Report Details
Foggy day with very little wind from the SW. Lots of gulls just sitting. Bull kelp scattered all over the beach. Several millipedes seen which hadn't been seen before. Wondering if there were sand fleas with all the holes in the sand. Not much litter. Erosion south of Henderson Creek seems to be the same.
Conditions
Temperature: 55 F. Cloud Cover: Foggy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 5.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 3. Walking or running: 3. Very few people out, probably because of the fog (although the wind was very mild) and also because it was Friday.
Concerns
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Approximately 170 gulls who were mainly in area and facing the slight wind. Not feeding. Seeing several millipedes was a surprise and they were walking towards the water. Wondered if there were sand fleas because of the many holes we saw but didn't see the fleas.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 4. Enganglement: 4. These were apparently gulls and their bodies were enmeshed in seaweed & not netting.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Wood pieces. Lots of kelp on the beach south of Henderson Creek.
Natural Changes
erosion may be the same as seen previously reported.
