Mile 307 - Cove Beach north, Arch Cape, Arch Cape Creek - May 6, 2008

Report Details

Thanks to the very low minus tide, some "reefs" became visible on the beach at about the middle of mile 307.Great tide pools.Seeing the Harlequin ducks at the Arch Cape was a treat! Much sea weed covered rock north of the Arch Cape, due to very low sand level impossible to get around the Cape.

Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: -1.4 feet.

Concerns

Apparent violations: none.

Notable Wildlife

large swarms of surf scoters floating and flying around the Gull rocks.(200 at least). 40-50 pelagic cormorants on Gull Rocks. 3 brown pelicans flying North. In surf just N of the Arch Cape: 10 Harlequin ducks (including a few females) and @10 white wing scoters.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Small rocks, Wood pieces.

Natural Changes

Visible retreat of solid bluff. erosion about the same as in last report

Cove Beach north, Arch Cape, Arch Cape Creek

The wrack line contained small (2-4") crab casings, clam shells and broken sand dollars. There was a small land slide near a house drain line - see picture. The sand level was low on the north end of mile 307 which leaves the rocks uncovered.
