A tourist attempted to climb the west end of the first Bird Rock at Chapman Point for a photo opportunity, flushing two black oystercatcher parents from their nest and away from their chicks.

Tourist attempted to climb the first Bird Rock at Chapman Point for a photo opportunity. Both black oystercatcher parents approached him while alarm calling. Presently no signage at Chapman or Les Shirley Park entrances to notify beachgoers not to climb rocks or disturb nests.

Concerns

Apparent violations: As I was surveying a black oystercatcher (BLOY) nest, a tourist waded through the water to the nests on the west end of the first Bird Rock at Chapman Point, flushing the BLOY parents from the nest and away from their chicks..

Actions & Comments

Explained to him that he was too close to the nest, offered to let him view the chicks with my spotting scope, but he declined.
