Notable Wildlife

Juvenile eagle on first Bird Rock at Chapman Point. This juvenile has been spending time in this area the past couple weeks. Two adult eagles on second Bird Rock, chattering, as well as a pair of Canada geese. One pair of black oystercatchers foraging on fourth Bird Rock. Pigeon guillemots, cormorants, and murres on rocks and in surf. Single female Harlequin duck or surf scoter by first Bird Rock - usually seen at Ecola Point, not at Chapman, and not alone. One adult bald eagle on the north end of Crescent Beach. Four whimbrel foraging on the beach, unusually low count for this time of year. One Greater Yellowlegs foraging at river on Mile 314, possibly a Lesser Yellowlegs.

Actions & Comments

Beautiful quiet day on the beach with no wildlife disturbance.  No sand bridge access via Chapman Point, visitors via the trail only.

Quite a few people enjoying a Sunday morning walk on the beach at low tide, able to walk to Crescent Beach via the sand bridge by the first Bird Rock.
