Report Details
One dead adult Ochre Sea Star was found, with no evidence of wasting. Otherwise the mile was enjoyable but thoroughly uneventful.
Conditions
Temperature: 61 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 4.2 feet.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
The usual critters: Semipalm Plovers, Least & Western Sandpipers, Sanderlings, Caspian & Common Terns, Brown Pelicans, Barn Swallows, Western Gulls
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). Hardly any litter or debris seen, though we didn't bring a microscope to look for microplastics...
Man-made Modifications
Dune modification/removal. A few sets of tire tracks going up into the dunes perhaps 15-20' in a few places. The vegetation was gone so I suspect those are long-standing tracks.
Natural Changes
Nothing noted.
